North Sydney Junior District Cricket Club are proud to partner with Cricket NSW as an official participant in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Junior cricketers aged 14+ can complete components of their Duke of Ed requirements with the Bears.
To participate with the Bears please contact Michael Dockery (Junior Girls Co-Ordinator)
or Matthew Sorensen (Junior Boys Co-Ordinator) at committee@nsdjcc.com.au
What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?
The Award is a leading structured (non-formal education) youth development program, empowering young Australians aged 14-24 to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world, regardless of location or circumstance.
The Award is a fully inclusive program and has no social, political or religious affiliations.
To achieve an Award, each young person must learn a skill, improve their physical wellbeing, volunteer in their community and experience a team adventure in a new environment. All participants are supported by a network of adult assessors.

Why are the Bears involved?
As a premier, junior cricket club amongst the largest in NSW we feel it’s important to give back to the community. Being associated with this Award represents an opportunity to invest further in youth personal development while being associated with a quality international brand.
We hope it will encourage more juniors to play the game and for longer, while also being exposed to the benefits of volunteering and giving back to the club.
How can Duke of Edinburgh participants be involved with the Bears?
Junior cricketers aged 14+ can complete a number of their Duke of Ed requirements with the Bears.
This can be in the form of Physical Recreation, Voluntary Service or Skills development.
Matthew Sorensen is the Junior Boys Co-ordinator, Michael Dockey is the Junior Girls Co-ordinator.
They will help the Duke of Ed participant set up an appropriate activity schedule to satisfy the necessary requirements and place the participant in contact with the relevant ‘Assessors’.
What is the role of the Assessor?
They act as a supervisor for the activity being undertaken by the participant and will complete an online form at the end of the scheduled activity period to confirm the activity has been successfully completed.
The assessor is likely to be a team coach, manager or committee member and must have a Working With Children Certificate.
To participate with the Bears please contact Michael Dockery (Junior Girls Co-Ordinator)
